Mr Hickman Casey has been Consultant Ophthalmologist at Eastbourne since 1999.

He was awarded his medical degree from the University of London (Kings College & Westminster Medical School).

 

Following on from this, his Ophthalmology training in London was at highly regarded eye units – St Thomas’ Hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital, National Hospital for Neurological Disease Queen Square, Kings College Hospital and The Royal Free Hospital. This provided wide experience in all aspects of Ophthalmology. He undertook research in glaucoma including being an investigator for the Xalatan trial - a major advance in the drug treatment of glaucoma.

 

Mr Hickman Casey has specialist interests in cataract and glaucoma surgery. He has extensive experience in cataract surgery having performed over 14,000 cataract operations. He is able to offer treatment for high risk complicated cataract surgery as well as offering premium intraocular lenses (toric lens to correct astigmatism and multifocal intraocular lenses allowing patients to be free from glasses).

 

His expertise in glaucoma includes trabeculectomy and laser trabeculoplasty surgery as well as the newer MIGS procedures (Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery) such as iSTENTS, XEN implants and Preserflo Microshunt.
 

Mr Hickman Casey is active in teaching having been the local college tutor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as well as Secretary for the Southern Ophthalmology Society and Eastbourne Medical Society. He has supported his department acting as Clinical Lead for East Sussex Healthcare Trust.

He offers a caring and sympathetic approach to patient care and is dedicated to achieving the best results for his patients.
